WILL SUCCESS

A Friend in Berlin has informed us that "a will has been made in our favour". We are grateful to all who have considered us and hope that more will in the future.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to help us compile mailing lists to send out invitations to our 'Student' Day at the Library. The event is to take place on Sunday, 4th November, 2001 and starts at 2pm until 5pm. Please contact the Library if you can help with the above.

WCML OPEN DAY

The WCML is again taking part in the annual National Heritage Open Days organised by the Civic Trust in September. The Heritage Open Day is a chance for unique buildings and their collections to be opened up to as wide an audience as possible. On the 8th-9th September the Library will be open to all from 11am-5pm. Entry is free for all.

The theme this year is Trade Union history and guided tours of the Library will focus on banners, commemorative prints and drawings from early 'Friendly Societies' to modern day unions.

Ruth Frow, a co-founder of the Library will also be available to talk about the collection and its fascinating stories therein. Refreshments will be provided and publications will be on sale.

Please ring the Library for further information on 0161 736 3601. Other information on Heritage Open Days can be found on the following web site: www.civictrust.org.uk.

JIM ALLEN MATERIAL

As previously mentioned. Jim Allen's family have kindly donated many of Jim's books, newspaper collections and pamphlets. We will also be receiving films, scripts and much more in the future.

We have begun the process of checking through the books and papers and incorporating them into the collection. The work on the books is virtually complete. We still have some way to go with the pamphlets.

DON'T FORGET OUR WEB SITE

Most of you will be aware that we have a web site but for those who do not then why not check out www.wcml.org.uk. We have an on-line catalogue where you can check materials available for research. An uncatalogued list of materials. A special series of web paged relating to Ewan MacColl the local Folk singer/songwriter and much more. It is being updated regularly so if you have not visited our web site for a while why not call in again.
