Finding Aids Online: Contemporary History of Poland (Archiv für Polnische Zeitgeschichte)
Since 1999 the Schweizerisches Sozialarchiv has been presenting summaries of its archival collections on the internet web site (www.sozialarchiv.ch). For the future we have plans to make the finding aids available on the internet in order to improve access for consultation purposes. We gave priority to our collection on Contemporary History of Poland (Archiv für Polnische Zeitgeschichte). The collection was donated to the Schweizerische Sozialarchiv by emigrants from Poland in the 1980s. Similar collections are held by other archives in Western Europe (e.g., Bibliothek der sozialen Demokratie [Bonn]; Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli [Milan], International Institute of Social History [Amsterdam]). Our collection contains mainly rare documents related both to the birth of "Solidarnosc" and the time of its prohibition and the imposing of martial law. The finding aid is written in Polish and can be found at: www.sozialarchiv.ch/Bestaende/APoln.html.
