Louise Michel Papers
A new inventory of the papers of Louise Michel (1860-1905) is available on the IISH Website. Michel took part in the Paris Commune, was a tireless propagandist of the anarchist cause and a prolific writer. Her work covers a wide range of subjects and interests: from the left-wing politics of her day to educational issues, from literature to the plants of New Caledonia where she had been imprisoned from 1873-1880. She published poems and wrote plays and novels. The collection also provides insight in her private life and intimate thoughts. She still generates considerable interest: five of her works have been republished since 1999.
