American Midwest Labour History

CFP: MLWCH workshop, Iowa, April 2007

The annual Midwest Labor and Working Class History (MLWCH) colloquium will be held April 6-7, 2007, on the campus of the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Graduate students from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Iowa rotate in organizing the colloquium. This event is an annual gathering of scholars in the fields of labor, working class, and social history, and social scientists from the Midwest.

This year's colloquium will follow a workshop format. Papers will be pre-circulated via the colloquium webpage http://mlwch.graduatehistorysociety.org. A 20 page maximum length is suggested for ease of reading. Each presenter will give a brief 5-8 minute overview of their paper, followed by 20-30 minutes of discussion. For those who would like to stay Sunday morning (April 8), a session devoted to the teaching of labor and working class history will also be held. Attendees who wish to participate are encouraged to submit syllabi of their choice that they have used in the past (this is not a requirement), which will be posted on the colloquium webpage. Those interested in presenting papers or syllabi for discussion are invited to submit one page abstracts to Jake Hall ([mailto]jacob-hall@uiowa.edu[/mailto]). Deadline for the submission of abstracts is February 16, 2007 and the deadline for submitting papers is March 18, 2007.
