Veranstalter: University of Cologne, Cologne
Datum, Ort: 06.09.2014-07.09.2014, University of Cologne
Deadline: 10.02.2014
As part of the ERC-funded project "Left-wing Exile in Mexico, 1934-60" we are inviting proposals for academic presentations at a project workshop with the aim to explore and develop new systematic approaches to the history of exile during the 20th century, especially in pursuit of a transnational history of experiences of exile and of transdisciplinary approaches inspired by political and cultural history, social and cultural anthropology, gender studies, visual history, and network analysis. Themes of presentations may relate to experiences of exile in any Latin-American society during the 20th century, but should relate to one of the following systematic areas:
1. Gendering Exile (female and/or male experiences, gender relations, gendered practices and/or cultural representations of gender, gendered narratives and/or memories)
2. Politics of modern culture (influences of exiled communities in areas of architecture, design, urban planning, photography, music, visual arts)
3. Spaces of Exile (sites of life in exile, urban and/or rural contexts, spatial imaginations of exile, social topography, conflicts over space)
Presentations and discussions may be held in English or in Spanish. Financial assistance with travel expenses and accommodation may be available. Proposals should be submitted in the form of an abstract of no more than 500 words arriving before the 10th February 2014 to: aribert.reimann@uni-koeln.de
