Call for papers, deadline 24 November, 2014

SHS Annual Conference 2015: Call for Papers
Portsmouth University, March 31st – April 2nd 2015

The annual Social History Society Conference is the largest gathering of social and cultural historians in the UK. In 2015 the conference will take place at Portsmouth University from 31 March to 2 April. Proposals for individual papers and panels are warmly invited from new and established researchers in the field.

The conference is organised around seven strands that cover a broad range of topics, themes and approaches. In 2014 we launched a new strand Global and Transnational Approaches. We particularly welcome proposals for papers and panels that focus on the early modern period and that extend social and cultural history beyond Britain. The full list of strands is:

• Deviance, Inclusion and Exclusion
• Economies, Culture and Consumption
• Global and Transnational Approaches
• Life-cycles and Life-styles
• Narratives, Emotions and the Self
• Political Cultures, Policy and Citizenship
• Spaces and Places

There is a prize for the best postgraduate paper worth £250. Conference delegates are also invited to submit their papers for consideration for publication in Cultural & Social History: The Journal of the Social History Society

Call for Posters
In 2015 we launch the poster session to allow postgraduate students the flexibility to present their findings in creative and news ways. The poster session will consist of fourteen poster presentations, two from each of the seven strands of the conference. Chosen participants will have the opportunity to present their research over a two-hour period, allowing them to interact with a large number of historians.

During the poster session, attendees will vote for the best poster presentation. The winner of the poster competition will receive a prize.

The deadline for submission of paper and poster abstracts is Monday 24 November, 2014.

To submit an abstract and for further details of the conference strands and of the Social History Society, please visit our conference section: http://www.socialhistory.org.uk/conference
