France 1995: Turning Point or Tremor?

This conference, which is jointly sponsored by the PSA French Politics and Policy Specialist Group and the French Department of Kings College London, examines the impact of the December 1995 strikes in France. It is divided into five sessions: on the particular features of the movement itself; on the trade union movement; on the impact of the strikes on intellectual debates; on the ramifications with regard to political parties; on the relevance of class in analysing the strikes. There will also be a presentation and discussion of films relating to the 'social movement' in France.
Speakers include Stephen Bouquin (Université de Bruxelles), Catherine Lévy (CNRS), René Mouriaux (Cévipof), Alex Callinicos (University of York), Daniel Bensaid (Univeristé de Paris VIII), Pierre Cours-Salies (Université de Caen), Christophe Aguiton (SUD), Stephane Rozès (CSA Opinion, IEP Paris), Frédéric Lebaron (Collège de France), Stéphane Beaud (Université de Nantes), Philippe Marlière (University College London), Jim Wolfreys (King's College London), Colin Barker (Manchester Metropolitan University), Steve Jefferys (University of Keele) and Eustache Kouvélakis (University of Wolverhampton).
