The University of Georgia Libraries seeks a Digital Projects Librarian/Archivist who will be responsible for leading DLG’s imaging and curation efforts, student and staff hiring and supervision, quality control, and other duties related to the curation and creation of digital resources for Digital Library of Georgia (DLG) initiatives including but not limited to Athenaeum, the University of Georgia’s institutional repository (http://athenaeum.libs.uga.edu/) and library-hosted open access journals. The incumbent will also support the DLG’s participation in the Digital Public Library of America. The Digital Projects Librarian/Archivist reports to the Director for the DLG and works closely with the Scholarly Communications Librarian to provide technical support for the University of Georgia Libraries’ institutional repository Athenaeum@UGA which is an important part of the scholarly communications program. The incumbent will supervise one paraprofessional staff member and student assistants as needed.

The award-winning Digital Library of Georgia is a GALILEO initiative based at the University of Georgia Libraries. The DLG works together with Georgia's libraries, archives, museums, and other institutions of cultural heritage to provide access to the cultural and historical resources of the state of Georgia. This primary mission is accomplished through the ongoing development, maintenance, and preservation of digital collections and online digital library resources. These may include materials such as original manuscripts, typescripts, books, photographs, maps, sheet music, posters and broadsides, newspapers, primary source materials on microfilm, audio, video, and other formats. Each project is made available freely to the public as part of GALILEO.

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLIS, or relevant Master's degree (ACA certification expected in 5 years for continued employment); Working knowledge of generating FADGI 4 compatible images in a professional setting; Working knowledge of digitizing cultural heritage materials using flatbed scanners, DTAtom and CaptureOne CH, and Betterlight scanbacks for imaging of cultural heritage materials in a professional setting; Working knowledge of using FITS (File Information Tool Set), BagIt, or other digital curation tools in a professional setting; Working knowledge of generating NDNP-compatible digitized newspapers using Abbyy Recognition Server; Working knowledge of developing XTF sites; Working knowledge of managing DSpace 4 repositories and OJS journal instances; Demonstrated skills with scripting languages and/or tools for data manipulation; Demonstrated skills in project management and problem solving; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; Effective oral and written communication skills; Ability to function as a contributing team member in a production-oriented environment; Demonstrated ability to supervise.

Preferred Qualifications:  Working with Samvera or Fedora preferred; Working with Chronicling America newspaper delivery system; Knowledge of current trends and issues in copyright and open access and other areas of scholarly communication including trends, legal issues and best practices as they relate to institutional repositories preferred.
