The Botto House National Landmark is the headquarters of the American Labor Museum, which offers educational programs & more. This 1908 home of immigrant silk mill workers was the meeting place for strikers calling for decent working conditions, an end to child labor, and an eight-hour day. In-person tours of the Museum's restored period rooms, Old World Gardens and temporary exhibits Union Made: Fashioning America in the 20th Century and Women Who Dare To Inspire are available by appointment. (Visitors are required to wear face coverings.) "Virtual" tours, classes, and research assistance via Zoom for individuals, summer camps and other groups are also available by appointment. Donations are appreciated. The Museum's website www.labormuseum.net offers educational activities and links to video lessons and virtual tours. Union Made: Fashioning America in the 20th Century by Denise Green, Ph.D. and Patrizia Sione, Ph.D. is on view through August 29th, 2020. Women Who Dare To Inspire commemorates the Centennial of the 19th Amendment which guaranteed women the right to vote.
The Museum Receives NJCH COVID-19 Grant
The Museum received a COVID-19 Response Grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH) with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the federal CARES Act. The grant funds are earmarked to support the Museum's general operations, humanities programming and outreach. The NJCH's COVID-19 Response Grants make funds available as support for museums and other nonprofits who are facing financial hardship due to the pandemic so that they may continue to offer humanities programming to public audiences. The Museum currently offers in-person and "virtual" tours and more by appointment.

Museum Salute to Essential Workers, Sept. 6th at 1:30pm
The Annual Labor Day celebration, co-sponsored by the Museum and the Borough of Haledon, is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 6th, 2020. Though definitive plans cannot be confirmed due to COVID-19, the celebration is tentatively scheduled to begin at the Museum at 1:30pm. Susan M. Cleary, President of district 1199J, AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees) will lead the honored Essential Workers at the celebration. All participants are required to wear face coverings. All community organizations, unions, businesses, cultural groups, and individuals interested in joining and/or supporting the Museum's tribute to Essential Workers may learn more by visiting www.labormuseum.net or by calling the Museum at (973) 595-7953.
