Just published are the first two volumes of a 10 volume edition of papers of Willy Brandt called the Berlin Edition. Underlining the importance of this project, the German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder, introduced in Berlin volumes no 2: Zwei Vaterländer: Deutsch-Norweger im schwedischen Exil - Rückkehr nach Deutschland 1940-1947 (Two Homelands: A German-Norwegian in the Swedish Exile - Return to Germany, 1940-1947), and no 4: Auf dem Weg nach vorn: Willy Brandt und die SPD 1947-1972 (On the Road to Success: Willy Brandt and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), 1947-1972).
The Berlin Edition is directed at a wider audience with historical and political interests, while observing all requirements of a scholarly edition. Presenting an important selection of speeches, papers, and letters it aims at introducing the life, work and thoughts of Willy Brandt in the context of important events and developments of 20th century history. It contains often unpublished or difficult to reach documents from the Willy-Brandt-Archives in the Archives of Social Democracy of the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation at Bonn as well as contributions from other archives.
The edition is a project of the Bundeskanzler-Willy-Brandt-Foundation in Berlin and directed by the German scholars Helga Grebing, Gregor Schoellgen, and Heinrich August Winkler.
