Occupied Italy, 1943-1946 is an open-access digital journal dedicated to the study of the history of the Second World War in Italy and its immediate consequences, spanning between the Allied landing in July 1943 and the Italian referendum in June 1946.
The journal was founded in December 2020 with the aim of emphasizing the relevance of the Italian events in the context of the Second World War and the geopolitical consequences of the Allied landing for the entire Mediterranean area.
Occupied Italy is characterized by the scientific value of its contributions, but also by a multidisciplinary approach and attention to cultural history. The intent is to provide a platform for original research by Italian and foreign scholars, from different disciplinary and educational fields, while focusing on the military, political, socio-cultural, and economic aspects relating to the period of the
Allied presence in the Italian territory. An open dialogue between different disciplines can make a significant contribution to research and studies on a subject that has not benefited from much academic attention in recent years. The journal will also focus on divulgation through a series of dedicated sections, with the aim of attracting the attention of a wider audience.
The first issue of Occupied Italy will be published in September 2021 and for the occasion, a launch event will take place, in which the authors of the contributions chosen will be invited to participate.
We are inviting interested scholars and authors to send their proposals as 300 words abstract. We encourage contributions dealing with, but not limited to, the following research themes:
- The Italian military campaign
- German occupation of Italy and the Repubblica Sociale Italiana
- Resistenza and civil war
- Allied reconstruction of the country and Republican Italy
- The memory of the war and the public use of history
- Cultural representations of war
- Cultural consequences of the Allied occupation
- Geography of the conflict
We accept contributions in Italian and English.
The deadline for submission is 8 March 2021. Please send your abstracts to the following address: editors@occupieditaly.org
The editorial staff, after consultation with the scientific committee, will evaluate the abstracts and will communicate the selection by 15 March 2021. The authors whose proposals will be accepted must deliver their final contributions by 16 May 2021, to be
subjected to double-blind peer review. Editorial guidelines are available here:
