Annual workshop program

The Canadian Committee on Labour History's Annual Workshop will take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Sunday, June 6, 2004 (the day after the Canadian Historical Association's Annual Meeting concludes).

Location: The Ukrainian Labour Temple 591 Pritchard Ave., Winnipeg.
Agenda: June 6, 2004

  • 10:00-12:00 -- Winnipeg General Strike Bus Tour
  • 12:00-2:00 -- Lunch; Tour of the Labour Temple, Celebration of the Labour Temple's 85th Anniversary, and music by the Labour Choir
  • 2:00-3:30 -- Winnipeg's Radical Past: Women in the Old, New, and Transnational Lefts. Personal Narratives by Jewish and Ukrainian working-class activist women and women from the Women's Liberation Movement.
  • 4:00-5:30 -- From Schreyer to Doer: Does an NDP Government Make Any Difference to Workers. Perspectives from local community and activists and from Becky Barrett, the former Manitoba Minister of Labour.
  • 5:30-6:00 -- Socializing and Drinks
  • 6:00-9:00 -- Banquet, with Guest Speaker DAVID MONTGOMERY, speaking on workers and globalization, 1919 and 2004.

Also, for those in Winnipeg for the CHA and for other meetings of the Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities of Canada, the Canadian Committee on Labour History will be co-sponsoring a party with the Socialist Studies Society and Fernwood Books, taking place on the evening of Friday, June 4.
