We find the years ending in 9 have some significant anniversaries.
February 7, 2009 is the 90th anniversary of the beginning of the Seattle General Strike.
March 27, 2009 is the 75th anniversary of the Pacific Coast waterfront revolution begun by the soon to be chartered as the International Longshore Workers Union.
May 1, 2009 is the 90th anniversary of the beginning of the Winnipeg General Strike.
November 2, 2009 is the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Spokane Free Speech Fight.
November 11, 2009 is the 90th anniversary of the Centralia, Washington Tragedy.
November 30, 2009 is the 10th anniversary of the WTO/Battle in Seattle demonstration.
This conference seeks to connect these histories with contemporary globalization and related social issues, such as free speech and the right to organize, to consider how the labor movement can strengthen for the future with lessons from the past.
