On 22 July 2011, 69 people were killed on the island Utøya near Oslo, at the annual summer camp of the Workers' Youth League (Arbeidernes ungdomsfylking, AUF), the youth wing of the Norwegian Labour Party.
The island Utøya was owned by the Oslo Trade Union Confederation from 1932 to 1950, then it was presented to the Workers' Youth League. It has been used for summer camps and other activities by the Labour movement for decades.
The Arbeiderbevegelsens arkiv og bibliotek (Oslo) presents a selection of pictures from Utøya in happier times, to express its deepest sympathy to all who were affected by the attacks on Friday 22 July.
