The IISH conducts advanced research on the global history of work, workers, and labour relations and to this end gathers data, which are made available to other researchers as well.

In addition to its core mission the Institute is active in the area of scholarly publications: journals, books, and, increasingly, online open access publications.

The International Review of Social History (IRSH), IISH’s international academic journal, is one of the leading journals in the field of global labour history. Truly global in its scope, it focuses on research in social and labour history from a comparative and transnational perspective, both in the modern and in the early modern period, and across periods. The journal combines quality, depth and originality of its articles with an open eye for theoretical innovation and new insights and methods from within its field and from contiguous disciplines. Besides research articles, it features surveys of new themes and subject fields, a suggestions and debates section, review essays, book reviews and an annotated bibliography.

The International Institute of Social History is looking for an

Executive Editor (m/f)
(30,4 hours a week for 2 years)

The Executive Editor is responsible for the management of the editorial process of the International Review of Social History (IRSH), as well as of other publication formats, including book series and online publications. Tasks include acquisition and first evaluation of submissions, management of peer reviewing, copy editing, book review section, and production of the journal; management of peer reviewing, copy editing, and production of book series and other publication formats. Requirements

PhD in history or another discipline with a historical component, and a clear interest in global labour history
Experience in academic (e-)publishing is recommended
Experience with planning, coordinating and managing the editing process/production process
Being able to negotiate, and maintain an extensive network of professional relations
Experience in leadership
Fluency in English, preferably proficiency in German, French and/or Spanish

Appointment and salary

The position involves a temporary appointment with the Stichting IISH for 2 years with a 2-month period of probation. The gross salary ranges from € 3.950,- to € 5.070,- (scale 12 CAO-Dutch Universities) based on a full working week (38 hours) and depending on relevant work experience.
The Stichting IISH offer an extensive package of fringe benefits, such as 8,3% year-end bonus, 8% holiday pay, a good pension scheme, 6 weeks holiday on an annual basis and the possibility to buy or sell vacation hours.
