Research program Four Centuries of Labor Camps: War, Rehabilitation, Ethnicity
Project: “Tsarist Katorga and Soviet Gulag in Western Siberia: War, Colonization and the Making of "Socialist Man," 19th-20th Centuries”.
The research program Four Centuries of Labor Camps: War, Rehabilitation, Ethnicity is a joint enterprise of the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies (NIOD) and the International Institute of Social History (IISH), both located in Amsterdam. The aim of the program is to produce an integrated, worldwide history of labor camps which will overcome chronological boundaries. Program leader is professor Pieter Spierenburg who will closely collaborate with professors Marcel van der Linden (IISH) and Peter Romijn (NIOD) as members of the program’s steering committee. Job requirements
• Master in history or another discipline with a historical component
• Fluent in English and Russian
Appointment
This is a part-time position of 30.4 hours per week for a period of four years at the Stichting IISH.
We offer
The position involves a temporary appointment with the Stichting IISG for 4 years with a 2-month period of probation. The gross salary will be € 2.083,- per month in the first year, rising to € 2.664,- per month in the fourth year (scale P, for a PhD position, CAO-Dutch Universities) based on a full working week (38 hours).
