Visiting the Museum

Experience the 1908 home of immigrants, stroll through period rooms, exhibits and Old World Gardens and shop in the Museum Store.  The Museum is just moments away from the Great Falls National Park and the Paterson Museum. 1913 Paterson Silk Strike  The Children's Story New Book Available

The Museum is proud to announce the publication of a children's book about the historic 1913 Paterson Silk Strike.  The book is the collaborative effort of authors Angelica Santomauro, Museum Director, Evelyn Hershey, Museum Education Director, Historian Steve Golin, Editor Mark Torres, and Artist-Illustrator Thomas Germano.  The Museum received project grants from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State, for the writing and printing of the book.  Each 4th-grade public school classroom in New Jersey will receive a free copy, along with suggested curricula.  The book is also available for purchase in the Museum Store at a cost of $10.  For more information about the book, please call the Museum at 973-595-7953 or email labormuseum@gmail.com.

 

1913 Paterson Silk Strike: Paintings for the Children's Story Exhibit opens Jan. 5th

The Museum proudly opened the 1913 Paterson Silk Strike:  Paintings for the Children's Story exhibit by Thomas Germano on January 5th, 2022.  The exhibit features contemporary paintings in watercolors and oils which were created as illustrations for the new children's book (see left) about this historic labor struggle.  Mr. Germano's artwork is in the collection of the American Postal Workers Union.  He teaches fine art at the State University of NY in Farmingdale. The program is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.  The exhibit is on view at the Museum through April 23rd 2022.  Visit Wed.-Sat. 1-4PM and at other times by appointment by calling the Museum at 973-595-7953. 

 

Save the date & join us, Feb. 12 Underground Railroad in Paterson, NJ

On Saturday, February 12th at 2PM and in recognition of Black History Month, the Museum invites the general public to a virtual presentation They Secretly Helped Many A Fugitive:  The Underground Railroad in Paterson, NJ by Flavia Alaya, Ph.D. and Jimmy Richardson.  Dr. Alaya and Mr. Richardson are currently working to secure certification for Paterson's Huntoon Van Rensalier Underground Railroad Site (pictured above) from the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom.  Join them for a discussion about Paterson's UGRR history, with time for Q & A.  This virtual program will be hosted by the Museum via ZOOM.  Individuals interested in joining this free program are asked to call the Museum at 973-595-7953 or email labormuseum@gmail.com to request the ZOOM link.
