A new and extensive database is available for all those who want to find out in which cities and for what kind of employment Dutch Trade Unions appeared.
In the Netherlands we nowadays count a huge number of Trade Union Federations, as well as a few dozens of non-affiliated Unions.
There is a big ongoing debate about the Trade Union's future rationale of existence. No matter one’s point of view, good knowledge of the history of Trade Unionism is indispensable in forming an opinion.
Now for the first time, there’s an overview available of the many thousands of bigger and smaller Labour Unions that existed in the Netherlands before the outbreak of World War II.
This database was constructed under the auspices of the International Institute of Social History with financial support of the Federatie Nederlandse Vakverenigingen (FNV) and the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.
Contributions to this project were made by: Henk Wals en Lex Heerma van Voss (project lead), Arno Bornebroek, Jannes Houkes, Piet Hoekman, Sjaak van der Velden and Kees Mandemakers.
