CfP: III International Congress of Research on Anarchism

Call for papers, deadline 15 April 2022

Anarchism, as a body of ideas and a political movement, has contributed to reflections and actions over the last century and a half. For decades, it has become an object of research internationally, both within and outside academia, in different areas of knowledge, producing an important expansion and methodological renewal of the field of studies. Today, this process is visible through the recovery of archives and the availability of documents, the development of academic and non-academic productions, and the organization of editorial projects and the publication of texts, among others.

As a result of these convergent efforts, in recent years, São Paulo and Buenos Aires have hosted important meetings that brought together researchers from different countries. Three international conferences organized by the Biblioteca Terra Livre were held in São Paulo, such as “Élisée Reclus e a Geografia do Novo Mundo” (Geography Department – University of São Paulo, 2011), “Colóquio de Educação Libertária: 100 anos da Escola Moderna” (Faculty of Education – University of São Paulo, 2012) and “Piotr Kropotkin: Ativismo e Pesquisa” (Geography Department – University of São Paulo, 2021). In Buenos Aires, we highlight the “Encuentros de Investigadores/as sobre Anarquismo”, which took place between 2007 and 2015, promoted by the Centro de Documentación e Investigación de la Cultura de Izquierdas (CeDInCI/UNSAM). This instance was decisive for the organization in 2016 of the I Congreso Internacional de Investigadorxs sobre Anarquismo in the Argentine capital and its second edition in 2019 in Montevideo, promoted by professors and researchers from the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences of the University of the Republic of Uruguay with CeDInCI’s support.

Now, three years later, the Biblioteca Terra Livre and the CeDInCI announce the III International Congress of Research on Anarchism, to be held on November 8-11 2022 in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.

As in previous editions, the Congress aims to be a space for dialogue and plural exchange between researchers from different spaces and countries. To this end, those interested in participating may propose the submission of papers broadly related to the subject. In this sense, as anarchism is a multidisciplinary object of research, relevant proposals from different fields of knowledge, such as History, Geography, Sociology, Philosophy, Education, Literary Theory, etc., will be accepted.
