Archivist & Volunteer Coordinator

Vacancy at the Marx Memorial Library

The Marx Memorial Library is looking for a highly motivated Archivist with experience of collections and volunteer management, looking for a new challenge. Reporting directly to the Library and Project Manager, the Archivist and Volunteer Coordinator will oversee Marx Memorial Library’s collections and research services on-site for the duration of MML’s National Lottery Heritage Fund project ‘Marx Memorial Library at 90: Enduring and Engaging’. They will play a key role in continuing to work towards Archive Accreditation, sitting on MML’s Collections Sub-Committee. In addition, the post-holder will oversee the work of a team volunteers on-site each week, working on listing, cataloguing and preservation tasks. They will oversee the promotion of our education programme through the website and e-newsletter and deliver outreach and engagement activities at the MML with school groups and others as required.

The MML is a library, archive and education charity with a world-class collection of books, pamphlets and archives on Marxism, the history of socialism and the working-class movement. Our small, dynamic team is based in a Grade II listed building on Clerkenwell Green. The Library was founded in 1933. We hold classes, lectures and events, exhibitions and workshops and produce an annual journal Theory & Struggle.

This post will be four days a week (Monday-Thursday) at £30,000 pro-rata for a period of 15 months commencing late November/early December 2022.

Please contact Meirian Jump  m.jump@marx-memorial-library.org.uk for an application pack. Applications should be submitted by midnight on Sunday 28 August. Interviews will be held on 6 and 7 September.
