The Politics of Poverty and the Politics of the Poor in Modern South Asia

This is to announce the CeMIS History Research Group's second international workshop "The politics of poverty and the politics of the poor in modern South Asia", which will be held in Goettingen from 6 to 8 July 2011. We would be grateful if you forwarded it to colleagues who work on related issues. We hope for a good mix of experienced and younger researchers (including advanced PhD students) and encourage applications from across the social sciences.

The 9th European Social Science History Conference will be organized in Glasgow, Scotland, UK from 11 to 14 April 2012

The ESSHC aims at bringing together scholars interested in explaining historical phenomena using the methods of the social sciences. The conference is characterized by a lively exchange in many small groups, rather than by formal plenary sessions.

The Conference welcomes papers and sessions on any topic and any historical period. It is organized in a large number of networks:

Soviet Socialism - Kemalism - Italian Fascism: Comparative Approaches

The workshop will look on Soviet socialism, Italian Fascism and Kemalism in Turkey in a comparative way by analysing the historical relationship between them, but not by equating them. At the first glance, the differences regarding traditions, culture, religion, political system as well as the respective economic and social developments are striking.
