'Voices of a Twentieth Century Nation', the biennial Oral History Association of Australia National Conference, will be held in Australia's capital city, Canberra, from August 30 to September 2, 2001.
From Dr Susan Marsden, Conference Convenor: I extend a warm invitation to everyone with an active interest in oral history to attend. 'Voices of a Twentieth Century Nation', in the year of the Centenary of Federation, recognises Australia as a new nation still defining itself, its history and who we are as a people. Similar questions are being debated in other twentieth century and older nations, and we shall include presentations on these themes from other countries, as well as a major session on reconciliation with Australia's Indigenous peoples.
The conference also includes strands such as 'methodologies¹ and 'collaborations¹, and presentations at Australia¹s national cultural institutions, including our venue, the National Library of Australia, as well as Screensound (National Film & Sound Archive), Old Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, the National Archives, and the new National Museum of Australia (opened in March 2001).
