The research group FOST (Social and Cultural Food Studies) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel will organise a workshop on
Labour, labour relations and occupational identities in hotels, restaurants and cafes (18th-20th centuries)

Where? Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium.
Papers in English or French address one (or a combination) of the following themes:
-The labour market of the personnel of hotels, restaurants and cafes
-Migration of hotel and restaurant workers
-Unionisation of hotel and restaurant workers
-Gender relations in hotels, restaurants and cafes
-Schooling, apprenticeship and training in the hotel and restaurant business
-Labour conflicts in the hotel and restaurant business -Wages and wage systems in hotels, restaurants and cafes
-Occupational identities and occupational rhetoric in the hotel and restaurant business
