CfP: Military Labour History (session at the III ELHN Conference)

Call for Papers, deadline 15 September 2018

Call for papers for the 3rd European Labour History Network (ELHN) conference, 19 – 21 September 2019, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

During the last few years, the military labour research field has begun to attract the attention of labour historians and military historians alike. Inspired by the work carried by labour historians such as Jan Lucassen and Erik-Jan Zürcher, a working group of military labour was formed within the European Labour History Network (ELHN) during its first conference, held in 2015. With the 3rd ELHN coming up, the working group is now looking to continue exploring and further deepening the topics and discussions raised in previous conferences.

In this call, we are particularly interested in proposals for papers which address the following topics within military labour history (dealing with any time-period or continent):

  • Theoretical frameworks, concepts and methodologies in military labour history
  • The intersections of gender, race, class, sexuality, etc in military labour
  • Free and unfree military labour: degrees, moments and areas of coercion.

However, paper proposals which do not deal with any of the topics above are welcome as well.

Please send an abstract of maximum 300 words, together with information about your name, affiliation and contact details, to the coordinators of the ELHN Military Labour Working Group before September 15th, 2018:

Fia Sundevall – fia.sundevall@ekohist.su.se

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
