You receive collections, conclude agreements, record information about the collections and pass this on to the processing departments.

  • You have, or will acquire soon, good oral and written communication skills in Dutch and English, and preferably another language relevant to the institute’s activities.

The department
The Collection Development department is responsible for developing and carrying out the institute’s collection development policy. It consists of seven motivated staff members, a department head and region or subject specialists, and a number of correspondents, volunteers and temporary staff. We cooperate closely with the other Data & Collections departments: Processing, Enrichment, and Public Services.

Our goal is to offer sustainable preservation and accessibility of materials from diverse social and political groups and organizations, and the people active in them, and on socio-economic developments. We aim to ensure that these materials are inserted in the historical record, and to facilitate socio-economic historical research. We deal with analogue and digital sources, on a global scale, and over a long time span. Focus areas are labour, labour relations, economic factors, social inequality and social movements. We work in cooperation with those that produce the materials, such as researchers, political groups, trade unions, employers’ organisations, NGOs, activists and ephemeral online networks/communities.
