The Weihai Municipal Archives (China), Research Centre of the Great War (France), Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), and Shandong University (China) are hosting an international Conference on Chinese laborers and the First World War in Weihai, Shandong province in China, from September 16 to September 19, 2008. The organizers welcome any paper which examines Chinese laborers' involvement in the Great War from broad perspectives. The organizers specially encourage submission of papers which study Chinese laborers' lives in Europe, their interactions with laborers from other countries, or what happened to the Chinese laborers after the war was over. All local accommodation, transportation, and meals will be provided by Weihai local host and there is no registration fee. But conference participants need to cover their own transportation cost to and from Weihai.
