Onze catégories sont ouvertes au concours en droit et sciences sociales, dont une nouvelle catégorie Histoire politique et sociale depuis 1870.
Le lauréat de chaque catégorie se verra offrir la publication de sa thèse dans la Collection des thèses de l'Institut Universitaire Varenne, diffusée par la LGDJ-Editions Lextenso.
