Schien nach dem Zusammenbruch des Ostblocks jeglicher Bezug auf Karl Marx überholt und lediglich eine Sache einiger Weniger, erfährt Marx seit der globalen Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise eine erstaunliche Renaissance. Statt ihn jedoch als Denker ernst zu nehmen, seinen Begriffen auf den Grund zu gehen und die von ihm formulierte Kritik angesichts historisch-politischer Entwicklungen auf analytische Schärfe, Triftigkeit wie auch Zeitgemäßheit hin zu überprüfen, erfolgt der Bezug auf ihn und sein Werk häufig ikonographisch.
