Acta: International Conference: The Past and Future of International Trade Unionism

In 1999 the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) celebrated its 50th anniversary. The International Association of Labour History Institutions (IALHI) commemorated this event with the publication of an extensive history. The book, titled The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions: A History of the Organisation and its Precursors has been published in 2000. In addition to this historical study, IALHI, in conjunction with Amsab-Institute of Social History, organised a conference, 'The Past and Future of International Trade Unionism', where its results were confronted with the current debate on the role of the international union movement within the context of globalisation and worldwide economic expansion. The publication of the Acta (with English and French text) is a relevant contribution to the actual debate.
