Project Manager: Information and Outreach Coordinator for the Community House Labour Project
Terms of Reference
The Labour Research Service based in Salt River, Cape Town, South Africa, is looking for an individual who is passionate about labour and civil society struggles to work as an information and outreach coordinator for the reestablishment of the Trade Union Library [TUL.]
Function
The main function is to manage the activities required to implement the vision of the Trade Union Library and re-open its doors to the public.
- Consult with the Labour Research Service and all relevant stakeholders.
- Develop strategies to ensure that the TUL is functional and sustainable.
- Conceptualise programmes relevant to its constituencies. Arising from the above,
- Develop a management plan, business plan which clearly identifies the resource needs and specific projects to be run by the TUL.
- Prepare funding proposals and liaise with funders.
- Manage the re-opening of the TUL [June/July 2011] and assist in the development of exhibits/displays.
- Assess the viability of digitising the archive and the process and cost therof.
The position is available to be taken up immediately.
Competencies required of a suitable candidate
· Must have good communication and writing skills and be able to put together funding applications.
· Must have a passion for labour, civic and civil society struggles
· Must have management experience and the ability to work as part of a team.
· Must be able to work independently and have the ability to coordinate the work of a range of specialist consultants.
Duration
12 Month Contract Position, renewable subject to performance and funding being secured for extending the contract.
The person will be employed by the Labour Research Service and will report directly to the director of the LRS.
