Call for papers, deadline 15 July 2022

30.09-01.10.2022, University of Warsaw

Research Group on Modernization and Social Transformations, in cooperation with the Faculty of Sociology, Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw and the Graduate School for Social Research (Polish Academy of Sciences), kindly invite you to participate in the conference

Transforming State Socialism in East-Central Europe: Historical Sociology of the Long Change.

The conference aims to promote and strengthen sociohistorical research on the transformations of state socialism in East-Central Europe, focusing on the continuities and change. We seek to pursue several questions: what was state socialism in comparison with capitalism? Where did the impulses for changing the socialist system come from? How does new research on state socialism change our perception of the regime change of 1989? How to integrate the socialist experience into the framework of global history?
The conference will take place from 30 September to 1 October 2022 in Warsaw (in person)
In order to apply, please send your abstract and CV (maximum 1 page each) in a single PDF file to transformingsocialism@uw.edu.pl. The deadline for submissions is July 15.
