In Buenos Aires, at the Universidad Nacional de San Martín, on March 10 Rossana Barragán will launch the web-page about research and archives on Latin America and Caribbean Network on Labour History. The aim of the Latin American Network on Labour History is: "to build a community network of scholars who do research on Latin American and Caribbean Labour History from the XVI century until the present". The web-page provides a database of almost 900 articles from leading journals on Labour history and on broad issues related to this topic.

From Bilbao to Manchester: the Basque child refugees of 1937 - Charles Jepson
In June 1937 a large group of Basque refugee children arrived in Manchester. They had fled their homes in Bilbao in order to escape the daily bombardment inflicted by Franco's fascist forces during the Spanish Civil War. They would spend the next two years living in a number of Basque Colonies in the Manchester region.

Early modern globalization depended on the mobility and work of millions of workers who were crucial to production, transport, protection, and warfare. Bound by contract, slavery or otherwise, most of the labour relations through which sailors, soldiers, craftsmen, convicts and slaves were mobilized and employed contained elements in which withdrawal from the labour relation was a punishable offence. Though the lives of the working people were ordained by powerful trading companies and state structures, these workers often tried to pursue their own social and economic interests.

Nu het stof rond de herdenkingen van 50 jaar migratie is gaan liggen, blijft de vraag hoe te zorgen voor dat erfgoed in de toekomst. Op initiatief van de Unie van Turkse Verenigingen gaat daarover een workshop door op 7 maart.

Heute ist das, was wir unter Arbeit verstehen, in Bewegung geraten. Die kollektivvertraglich abgesicherte und betrieblich organisierte "Normalarbeit" weicht sich auf. Die Grenzen zwischen Arbeit und Nicht-Arbeit verschwimmen. Eingespielte Definitionen werden porös.
Was war Arbeit gestern und was ist sie heute? Was meint die gegenwärtige "Krise der Arbeit"? Und schliesslich: Wie ist die Geschichte der Arbeit in Zukunft zu erforschen?
