This painting by Geoff Gibbons of Coventry was produced to commemorate the 1984-1985 Miners' Strike. It was possibly entitled Solidarity. It is a tribute, in particular, to the support given by railwaymen from the Mantle Lane freight depot at Coalville, Leicestershire, to striking miners in the Coventry mine at Keresley, Warwickshire. It documents the demonstration of local solidarity between members of three trade unions: the National Union of Mineworkers, the National Union of Railwaymen and the Associated Society Of Locomotive Engineers And Firemen.

De BWP streefde ernaar dé politieke organisatie van de arbeidersbeweging te zijn. Daartoe moest ze reageren tegen de conservatieve recuperatiepogingen van het liberaal paternalisme en het katholiek anti-socialisme. In het teken van dit streven tot vereniging van alle arbeiders onder de socialistische vlag droegen de 'Broederlijke Wevers' van Gent omstreeks 1900 het schilderij 'De verdelers aan ‘t werk' van Jules De Bleye mee in de 1-meioptochten.

Henri Polak was the founder and chairman of the ANDB (General Dutch Union of Diamond Workers). He introduced modern union strategies and a modern organizational structure to the Netherlands. The painting was a present from union members, thanking Polak and the ANDB for the attainment of the eight hour working day.
