Todos los años, el día 9 de junio, se celebra mundialmente el Día Internacional de los Archivos. Es un día en el que los Archivos y los profesionales que trabajamos en ellos, con el Consejo Internacional de Archivos, hacemos un llamamiento sobre la importancia que tienen los Archivos en la defensa de nuestros derechos individuales y colectivos, en la preservación de nuestra historia y de nuestra identidad, y en la necesidad de promover, conservar y dar a conocer este tipo de centros y de los profesionales que trabajan en ellos.

In the end of 2014, in Athens, the Greek Labour and Labour Movement History Network was created by about twenty historians. The impetus for creating the network was given by the realization that, while there is a significant number of labour history studies conducted in Greece these last years by young researchers, the communication between the historians studying labour and labour movement is insufficient.

The welfare state operates with regulations, rights and obligations that apply to everyone in the same way, requiring individuals to identify themselves as members of society first and foremost. In this sense, the welfare state is the antithesis of art. Many artists support the welfare state in both theory and practice, and they are fascinated by rules as such, but they have little interest in following rules formulated by others than themselves…

Karl Marx lived from 1856 - 1883 in Maitland Park, Camden. In 2006, on the 150th anniversary of Marx's arrival in their neighbourhood, modern day residents performed this play in the Maitland Park Tenants Hall to tell neighbours about his life during that period.

Author Beth Shaw will be on hand to start the play.

International conference Societies Beyond Borders? New Horizons in Transnational Studies

While open to a variety of subject matter, this conference will feature three major themes in contemporary transnational studies: the sociology of migrations; international/transnational political economy; and transnational mobilizations, both in the contemporary era and in modern history.

On Archiving and Commoning the Snowden Files

In the past years the Berliner Gazette has been stimulating various debates and practical processes to work out ways to deal with the Snowden documents in a responsible, sustainable and, above all, democratic manner.

Cet ouvrage est le fruit d’une journée d’étude organisée en 2010 à la Maison du peuple de Saint-Claude (Jura). Dès son inauguration en 1910, l’édifice devint le centre névralgique et l’immeuble symbolique du mouvement ouvrier jurassien. Ce mouvement social se référait d’abord à un pragmatisme volontaire. Mais l’écoute et la lecture attentives des voix et des textes laissent affleurer l’utopie. Car sans être continuellement revendiqué, le rêve n’en apparaît pas moins comme essentiel.
