The next Pennsylvania Labor History Workshop is scheduled for December 11th at the Eckley Miners' Village. Two papers will be distributed in advance to the workshop participants and we will spend about an hour discussing each paper. Afterward the workshop participants will have an opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the historic Eckley Miners' Village and have lunch together if they choose. A second workshop will be held in April 2011, specific date and location to be announced later.
The Samuel Gompers Papers Project invites you to visit our newest website: A Short History of Labor Day, http://www.history.umd.edu/Gompers/Labor%20Day.htm
We offer documents, graphics, and basic information about Labor Day and May Day parades and celebrations that (we hope) are suitable for classroom use.
In honor of the holiday, why not take a look?

A new booklet, Symbolism in trade union emblems from the collection of the Working Class Movement Library, has been produced. The fruits of many months' labour by volunteer Hazel Bowden, the illustrated booklet investigates the roots of the wide-ranging and complex imagery of the many 19th century trade union membership certificates which line the Library's walls. Copies are available from the Library and cost £2.50 plus 50p p&p.. More information: [mailto]enquiries@wcml.org.uk[/mailto].
