The fall of the Russian Tsar and the rise to power of the Bolsheviks sent shock waves across Europe and beyond, initiating a period of momentous revolutionary transformations. Indeed, the protagonists of 1917 did not envisage their endeavour as an exclusively Russian phenomenon, but as the first act of the world revolution. As Lenin reflected in 1921, ‘we have made the start. When, at what date and time, and the proletarians of which nation will complete this process is not important. The important thing is that the ice has been broken’.

The Department of History at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a lecturer whose research and teaching is on the development of new social movements and/or alternative cultures (broadly understood) from the mid-twentieth century to the present day. We are particularly interested in candidates who explore this subject from a transnational perspective.

 El Grupo consolidado de la Generalitat de Cataluña Trabajo, Instituciones y Género (TIG) organiza anualmente unas Jornadas sobre Historia del Trabajo con el objetivo de mejorar la coordinación entre las investigaciones en curso, estimular los debates entre especialistas, y contribuir al desarrollo de la perspectiva de género en los estudios históricos sobre el trabajo.

Il y a plus de cinquante ans, Maurice Duverger pouvait écrire que « la plupart des études relatives aux partis politiques s’attachent surtout à l’analyse de leurs doctrines. Cette orientation découle de la notion libérale du parti qui le considère avant tout comme un groupement idéologique » (Duverger, 1981, p. 19). Aujourd’hui, force est d’admettre que ce constat n’est plus valable. Une autre approche, marquée par la référence weberienne et schumpeterienne (Offerlé, 2010), s'est progressivement imposée.

Le contexte politique américain actuel reflète la pacification et l’institutionnalisation des mouvements de contestation qui ont eu lieu au cours des dernières décennies (McCarthy & McPhail 1998), surtout lorsqu’on le compare avec les années 1920-1930 (mouvements centrés sur les droits des travailleurs) et les années 1960-1970 (mouvements pour les droits civiques, anti-guerres et anti-impérialistes, féministes et pour les droits des minorités sexuelles).

In 2004, an archaeological survey was organized in Baillet-en-France (France, Val-d’Oise) under the supervision of the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP). As a result, archaeological remains of Soviet artefacts were discovered, piled into an icehouse. Soon, François Gentili (INRAP) identified the origin of this unexpected discovery.
