The Labor History Initiative at the CEU Department of History invites applications for a residential fellowship on the topic of Labor History with a special emphasis on Eastern Europe writ large, including comparative and transnational approaches within and beyond the region. This postdoctoral fellowship contributes to the CEU Labor History Initiative (see http://history.ceu.edu/LaborHistory) and to developing this area of research in the region.

Cinq ans après le début de la révolution tunisienne, il s’agit ici de revenir sur les oppositions au régime de Ben Ali pour mieux en saisir l’actualité. Le cas du collectif du 18 Octobre 2005 à Paris est instructif à cet égard : réunissant les différentes composantes de l’opposition à la dictature benaliste, et tentant de dépasser les clivages idéologiques, le mouvement du 18 octobre constitue l’une des premières tentatives de lutte commune en France pour discuter des « droits et des libertés » en Tunisie et de dessiner les contours d’un possible projet politique commun.

Call for papers

What kind of questions of social solidarity are posed to European societies by increasing numbers of migrants? How should the left, with a tradition of defending internationalism and progressive forms of social solidarity respond? What can we learn from historical and global examples? Within the scope of this symposium, social and cultural activists, professors from Indiana University and re:work fellows will discuss critical questions about labor migration and the role of the state in regional width as well as in historical depth.
