The 2016 Brazilian International Labour Film Festival - Mostra CineTrabalho

The Mostra CineTrabalho / Brazilian International Labour Film Festival (BILFF) is a university extension activity of the UNESP – São Paulo State University. The BILFF aims to honour and support the filmmakers whose productions regard working conditions and to provide a forum for appreciative and informed discussion of a wide range of labour issues.

The practices of such visualizations became particularly relevant in the twentieth century, the age of mass-media imagery. In addition to moving images, it was photography that played a pivotal role, becoming not only a mass medium, but also an everyday practice for the individual photographic actor operating below the level of dominant media representations - a grassroots area that has received much less attention from historians.

CfP: Postcommunism in Africa. A cross-regional perspective

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 spelled the end of communism in East-Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union. Like the communist experience itself, postcommunism is seen as a distinct phenomenon, with countries facing a triple transition: political, economic, and societal. So far, the notion of postcommunism has only been used for the Eurasian countries. As a consequence, it is unclear whether postcommunism is a regional phenomenon or truly captures the unique legacies of Leninist regimes worldwide.
